Merkur presented its latest developments in Juegos Miami

(Exclusive SoloAzar, Miami).- David Orrick, Director of Industry Relations, Merkur Gaming, was interviewed by SoloAzar regarding recent Juegos Miami. He commented about the products presented at the show, the feedback received and the current situation of the gaming sector, among other issues.


What products did you present at Juegos Miami 2017?

Merkur Gaming brought to Juegos Miami examples of three slot models that are proving to be a consistent success across Latin America: the slant top Avantgarde and its latest evolution, the Avantgarde Trio, together with the upright Merkurstar. With a range of the latest HD games these gaming innovations provided an ideal environment in which our international teams could interact with customers and make important contacts.

What is the feedback received from visitors?

The response, to both our product display and the presence of representation from all of our subsidiary companies (Argentina, Colombia, Mexico and Peru) was nothing short of excellent. Juegos Miami once again proved to be an ideal opportunity for the LatAm industry to come together, share experiences and viewpoints and thus promote the concept of gaming entertainment to the benefit of both manufacturers and operators.

How did you see this second edition of the event?

One year on from its launch, Juegos Miami has clearly grown and developed, successfully attracting more support from both exhibitors and attendees based on the success of the launch event. There are still lessons to be learned and new initiatives to be incorporated but the evidence of Juegos Miami II indicates that there is a clearly an appetite for this hybrid event concept, one that has clearly earned its place on the calendar, now and in years to come.

What are the advantages of this show for the Latin American region?

The key to Juegos Miami is that the event covers (and brings together) all the elements of gaming throughout Latin America. The value of an event that provides a forum in which all of its participants can discuss important matters and thus contribute to the further evolution of the international gaming industry is significant and, most definitely, valuable.

How do you see the current situation of the industry in general in this region? And in particular for the company you represent?

For Merkur Gaming, the advancement and development of gaming throughout the entire Latin America region has produced a success story that is exceptional. It is a cliché, but true nonetheless, that ‘success breeds success’ and that has been evident in the reputation for quality and excellence that Merkur Gaming has gathered as the process of new market entry (the launching of the Merkur Gaming brand in Argentina being just the latest example) and new product recognition increases, and will continue to do so.

What are the changes that manufacturers and operators should make to attract the new generation of players, the millenials?

Firstly, it is crucial to understand that not only the players are millenials. Some of the brightest minds in the international casino industry of today themselves come from the same generation and, quite naturally, the influences that they bring to their work creates a new and fresh thinking approach. The importance of social media channels cannot be underestimated as they open up a means of communication – direct to players – that simply did not exist just a few years ago. Over the same period the demand from players for ever greater levels of real entertainment in gaming have exploded, hence the focus on research and development that is now not just a reality … but a necessity for both manufacturers and, particularly in marketing terms, for operators.
