(Las Vegas, SoloAzar Exclusive).- The world is celebrating one year since the beginning of the quarantines, lockdown and so many drastic changes in the daily lives of people and companies in order to contain the Covid-19 pandemic. SoloAzar spoke exclusively with Eduardo Aching, Vice President, International Gaming Operations, Konami, who reviewed these last few months and drew conclusions from the situation that affects everyone.

´Konami and its exclusive distributors are focused on being supportive to casino customers where necessary´- Eduardo Aching

What can you evaluate about the current situation of the sector, one year after the beginning of the pandemic?

Across the gaming industry, we all understand that the fastest path to recovery is through ongoing safety practices. From the supplier, to the operator, to the employees, to the players—the more we work together to make safe gaming environments, the faster we can get back to normal. Casino operators have been forced to make tough decisions, but they are finding ways to return safely, which Konami and its distributors are happy to support as best we can. We are starting to see improvements, day by day.

What challenges have you had to face as a company?

Like many others, Konami has become more familiar with remote work, digital communications, and business closures since last year. It is not easy, which is why Konami and its exclusive distributors are focused on being supportive to casino customers where necessary, by providing flexible options, consultation, and service.

In what issue have you managed to have results beyond your expectations within the current situation? Have you had an unexpected opportunity?

Konami’s SYNKROS casino management system is experiencing record momentum, both in terms of new partnership and technology expansion. We’ve been working side-by-side with operators to drive new solutions and player conveniences to the casino floor, despite challenging circumstances, through tools for game sanitation, cashless wagering, and touchless authentication.

How could you describe the profile of the average player nowadays? What are the average tastes and demands?

I don’t believe we’ll see any immediate changes to the average player profile. The primary difference is an increased desire from guests to feel safe in the casino venues they visit. But casinos have done a great job adapting venues to reflect proper social distancing, occupancy, sanitation, and ventilation matters.

Which are the latest trends regarding technology, games and habits that arrived to stay?

It is early to speculate about lasting impacts to player preference, but likely cashless wagering will be one area of growth. Konami’s SYNKROS casino management system has offered cashless technology for many years, and I believe it’s important that we look to give our players cashless options in order to be competitive to other entertainment that customers enjoy.  From Marker Trax casino markers, to the SynkConnect mobile player account, to Money Klip cash wagering—our SYNKROS supports a mix of cashless solutions to suit different types of casinos and different jurisdictional requirements.

Which are the most important markets for the company at present?

All the markets we’re privileged to serve are important to Konami. Konami and its exclusive distributors are ready to assist any of the locations we do business. Step by step, our industry must strive to recover, so we continue to support communities across the globe.
