(Amsterdam).- The Dutch Gambling Authority (KSA) has announced stricter supervision of the sports sponsorship ban, which will be enforced starting July 1, 2025. The update was shared in a formal communication with licensed online gaming providers.

The Dutch Gambling Authority (KSA) has confirmed that the ban on untargeted gambling advertising, which took effect on July 1, 2023, will now extend to sports sponsorships as the transitional period expires in July 2025.
From that date, gambling operators will no longer be allowed to sponsor athletes, sports teams, clubs, competitions, jerseys, or promotional materials. This marks a significant shift in the Netherlands' approach to gambling advertising regulations.
KSA to Intensify Monitoring and Enforcement
As the deadline approaches, the KSA will be on high alert for any violations of the sponsorship ban and will take immediate enforcement actions against non-compliant operators.
To ensure a smooth transition, the regulator is actively engaging with industry associations to address concerns and clarify any remaining questions about the impact of the ban.
Michel Groothuizen, Chairman of the Dutch Gambling Authority, emphasized the importance of strict enforcement, citing examples from other countries where operators have attempted to bypass similar bans through creative loopholes.
"In other countries with similar bans, we’ve seen gambling providers try to circumvent the restrictions in creative ways. That will not be the case in the Netherlands. This law was designed to protect young adults and other vulnerable groups by preventing exposure to gambling advertisements, regardless of their source. At KSA, we will be highly vigilant on this matter," Groothuizen stated
