(Copenhagen).- Gambling activity in Denmark declined significantly in June 2025, with total spend dropping by 17.0% compared to the same month in 2024, according to the latest monthly report from the Danish Gambling Authority. The sharp downturn was primarily caused by a significant 53.5% decrease in betting engagement.

Danes Spent Less on Gambling in June 2025: Betting Plummets by Over 50%

The steep decline was largely driven by a 53.5% drop in betting activity, which analysts attribute to the absence of major sporting events like the UEFA European Football Championship, held in June 2024. The event had previously boosted betting volumes.

Online Casinos Show Growth Amid Market Decline

While overall gambling spend fell, online casinos defied the trend, recording a 10.0% year-on-year increase. This suggests a continued shift in consumer preference toward digital gambling platforms in Denmark.

In contrast, land-based gambling segments saw more modest declines:

Casino revenue decreased by 2.2%

Slot machine spend dropped by 6.5%

These figures highlight a more stable performance for physical gambling venues compared to the volatile betting sector.

Responsible Gambling Measures Also Tracked

The report also includes updated statistics on ROFUS (Register of Voluntarily Excluded Players) and the StopSpillet helpline, two key components of Denmark’s responsible gambling framework. While specific figures were not disclosed, the inclusion signals the continued focus on gambling harm prevention and player protection.

Key Takeaways:

Total gambling spend in June 2025: down 17.0% YoY

Betting spend: down 53.5%

Online casino spend: up 10.0%

Land-based casinos: down 2.2%

Slot machines: down 6.5%
