(San Paulo).- Almost two out of three Brazilians over the age of 18 support a ban on online sports betting, known as bets, according to a local media survey. This percentage rises to 78% when it comes to virtual slot machines, such as the popular ‘tiger game’, available on the same websites.

Online Gambling should be banned, according to 65% of Brazilians

Only 27% of adults are in favour of gambling remaining legal, while 8% have no opinion. The data are based on 1,935 face-to-face interviews conducted in 113 municipalities in all regions of the country. The legality of gambling is currently being debated in Brazilian courts.

The survey shows that rejection of gambling is higher among women (68%) than among men (61%). There are also differences by age: among 18-24 year olds, the group where the practice is most popular, 37% oppose the ban. In contrast, only 19% of people over 60 years of age share this opinion.

By religion, disapproval is similar: 66% of Evangelicals and 63% of Catholics are against gambling, with differences within the margin of error.
