(Copenhague).- The Danish Gambling Authority's Register of Self- Excluded Players (ROFUS) passed an important milestone: Over 60,000 people have now chosen to exclude themselves from gambling in Denmark. The vast majority are younger men.

The registry, created in 2012, allows people to self-exclude from online gambling, land-based casinos, and betting at licensed dealers in Denmark with just a few clicks.
"It is gratifying that those who need to exclude themselves from gambling are using ROFUS. This shows that awareness of the tool is growing and that it fulfils an important function in the effort against gambling addiction," says Anders Dorph, Director of the Danish Gambling Authority.
Since 2012, the number of registered people has grown every year – from less than 1,500 in the first year to now over 60,000. The increase in recent years can be attributed to increased requirements for gambling operators to provide information about ROFUS and the Danish Gambling Authority's campaigns. At the beginning of 2025, for example, the Danish Gambling Authority launched the campaign "Take it easy it with ROFUS", which aims to change young men's perception of ROFUS and make exclusion from gambling less taboo.
Young men are strongly overrepresented
In general, however, younger men are overrepresented in the statistics for ROFUS: Data from 1 May 2025 shows that as many as 58 per cent of all registered men are under the age of 40, and in the age group under 20 years, 96 per cent are men.
"The figures confirm a trend we have seen for several years – namely that young men are particularly at risk of problematic gambling behaviour. Therefore, we work purposefully with information in this particular group, including through presentations at youth educations," says Anders Dorph.
Players can choose between a temporary ban (from 24 hours to six months) or a final ban that can only be lifted after one year.
The Danish Gambling Authority will continue to work to increase awareness of ROFUS and other preventive initiatives to ensure that gambling in Denmark is conducted responsibly.
