(Iowa).- The NCAA has issued lifetime bans to six former college basketball players after uncovering their involvement in game manipulation and betting schemes, following three separate investigations.

NCAA Bans Six Former College Basketball Players for Game-Fixing and Betting Scheme

The governing body announced the decision on Friday, stating that the players shared insider information with known gamblers, failed to cooperate with investigators, and in some cases provided false or misleading statements during the inquiries.

The banned players and their former schools are:

Cedquavious Hunter, Dyquavian Short, and Jamond VincentUniversity of New Orleans

Donovan Sanders and Alvin StredicMississippi Valley State University

Chatton “BJ” FreemanArizona State University

None of the six players are currently enrolled at their respective institutions.

In the University of New Orleans case, the NCAA reported that a student-athlete overheard Hunter, Short, and Vincent discussing a third party who placed a bet on the Dec. 28, 2024 game. Near the end of that matchup, Short allegedly instructed a teammate not to score any more points.

The investigation also revealed text messages between Vincent and three outside parties, in which the player said he and his teammates planned to “throw the game.” Additional evidence linked all three players to a bettor.

According to the NCAA’s findings, Hunter, Short, and Vincent intentionally manipulated their performances to profit financially in seven games between December and January. “In all seven games, the players either lost or attempted to lose by more points than the betting spread, in conspiracy with outside bettors,” the NCAA stated.

In the Mississippi Valley case, the NCAA found that Sanders provided confidential team information to a bettor regarding two games, while Stredic did the same for one game in early 2025.

An integrity monitoring service flagged unusual activity surrounding Mississippi Valley’s Jan. 6 game, prompting the university and the NCAA to open a full investigation.

The NCAA emphasized that these actions violated the organization’s strict rules on sports integrity, gambling, and athlete conduct, reaffirming its commitment to preserving fair competition in college sports.
