(Douglas).- Altenar’s Director of Software Development – Sportsbook shares his journey from software engineer to company leader, highlighting the values that have shaped the provider’s global expansion.
From Developer to Director
Oleg Krasotkin, Director of Software Development – Sportsbook and Head of Altenar’s Russian office, has reflected on his career path, revealing that he never intended to move into management. Joining the project that would later become Altenar in the early 2010s, he initially focused on software engineering before taking responsibility for the company’s growing Russian operations in 2014.
In this sense, Oleg explained that “I had never set out to become a director. I wanted to develop as an engineer and continue growing technically”.
Building a Culture of Responsibility
According to Krasotkin, Altenar’s success has been driven by committed people, teamwork and a willingness to take ownership. He believes employees should be encouraged to show initiative while accepting responsibility for their decisions, creating a culture where personal contribution is valued over hierarchy.
Leadership Without Barriers
Despite leading an office of more than 300 employees, Krasotkin continues to work in the same open-plan space as the rest of the team rather than in a private office. He said this approach reflects his belief that leaders should remain accessible, avoid unnecessary privileges and foster open communication across the business.
Developing Talent from Within
Krasotkin also highlighted Altenar’s commitment to internal career development. He noted that as the company has expanded, it has consistently prioritised promoting existing employees into new roles, while emphasising that communication skills and collaboration are now just as important as technical expertise.
Balancing Work and Family
Outside the workplace, Krasotkin described family life as his greatest long-term project. He explained that spending time with his wife and three children remains his main priority, adding that helping people grow—both professionally and personally—is the most rewarding aspect of his leadership journey.
