(Buenos Aires, SoloAzar Exclusive).- The rise of sports betting in recent years in Latin America and the Caribbean has generated significant growth in the sector, boosting both entertainment and the economy. However, this increase has also brought with it important challenges in terms of control. For this reason, it is imperative to seek an improvement in the processes by guaranteeing a safe, transparent and fair environment for all participants, says Federico Rodríguez Aguiar, Marketing Analyst and Consultant, in this article.

Analysis of the audit and control processes of sports betting, by Federico Rodríguez Aguiar

Currently, some audit and control processes of sports betting in certain jurisdictions present areas of improvement that can have a positive impact both at the level of bettors and regulatory entities. Among the main difficulties identified we can mention:

  •  Lack of technological infrastructure: Current systems do not have the necessary technology to effectively detect and prevent fraudulent activities.
  • Poor staff training: The staff in charge of supervision and regulation lacks specialized training in the most modern techniques of control and data analysis.
  • Inadequate supervision of operators: There are no efficient mechanisms to audit and supervise betting operators, which allows the proliferation of irregular practices.
  • Absence of awareness campaigns: Lack of initiatives to educate the population about the risks and best practices in sports betting.

It would be easy to only propose the diagnosis, but it is understood that in order to address the weaknesses indicated above it is necessary to propose a comprehensive plan that includes the following actions:

  • Implementation of advanced technology systems: Acquire and integrate state-of-the-art software for real-time monitoring of bets, using artificial intelligence and analysis of large volumes of data.
  • Specialized training: Invest in the continuous training of staff, ensuring that they have the necessary skills to use new technological tools and apply international best practices.
  • Strengthening supervision: Establishing robust mechanisms for auditing and supervising betting operators, including regular inspections and effective sanctions for those who do not comply with regulations.
  • Awareness campaigns: Developing educational programs aimed at the general public, highlighting the risks associated with sports betting and promoting responsible gaming.

The implementation of these improvements will bring multiple benefits, both for the sports betting sector and for society in general:

  • Greater transparency and trust: Bettors will be able to trust that activities are carried out in a fair and transparent manner.
  • Reduction of fraud and illicit activities: With better control tools, opportunities for fraud and other illegal activities will be significantly reduced.
  • Improved tax collection: A more regulated and controlled sector will contribute to an increase in tax collection, thus benefiting the national economy.
  • Promoting responsible gaming: Educational campaigns will help mitigate the risks of addiction and other problems associated with gambling.

In conclusion, improving control processes in sports betting not only represents an investment in transparency and fairness within the sector, but also in the protection of citizens. It also contributes to the economic integrity of the country by ensuring a safer environment and encouraging the sustainable growth of sports betting.
