(Maryland).- A unique retail sportsbook in Maryland will have its grand opening on Monday.
A ribbon-cutting event is set to officially open the BetRivers Sportsbook at Bingo World, the first Maryland retail sportsbook outside of a casino. The state legalized sports betting over a year ago.
Voters in the state signed off on legal sports betting in November 2020, and then state legislators passed bills facilitating the approved wagering in spring 2021.
Bingo World is located in Baltimore. In March of this year, the facility was approved to become the state’s ninth retail sportsbook.
The 3,000-square-foot BetRivers Sportsbook at Bingo World has a lounge area with 32 theater-style seats, 21 hi-def video screens, 12 sports wagering kiosks, and three over-the-counter machines to place bets. All kinds of sports bets will be allowed.
Bingo World President Randy Clemens and BetRivers Director of B2B Services Adam Glass will be in attendance Monday, along with some elected officials.
Sports betting typically skews to a younger demographic, while bingo skews older. by Joe Mattia
