Nationalist deputy Álvaro Dastugue will present a project to limit casino hours, with the aim of “avoiding problematic gambling.” “We have a very big concern, which is gambling addiction,” he said.

Dastugue indicated that there are more than 35,000 Uruguayans addicted to gambling and that “each one is directly related to five people they affect. Therefore we can say that around 170 thousand Uruguayans are affected by gambling addiction.”

With his initiative, which will be presented next week in Parliament, they seek to limit gaming time, remove electronic tellers from inside the casinos, signage, among other points. “They are going in the direction of helping that person who has problematic gambling to try to help them get out of that addiction,” he added.
