(Puerto Rico).- According to data provided by the Gaming Commission of the Government of Puerto Rico, the country's casinos reported profits that exceeded $355 million, which is equivalent to a growth of 38.89% when compared to fiscal year 2021, in which raised more than $256 million.
When the increase in the gambling industry is contextualized, the growth doubled that of the general economy of the Island for the same fiscal year, which was 14.4% compared to 2021.
The notable growth between the two fiscal years could respond to a precision from the industry after the closures caused by the covid-19 pandemic, according to Miguel Vega, president of the Casino Committee of the Puerto Rico Hotel and Tourism Association (Prhta, for its acronym in English).
“The reason why revenues have improved is that the casinos have stabilized and there aren't as many restrictions anymore. We had one more consistently operational year, of course, we have the challenges of employment, but we have operations with regular hours, which has allowed us to recover lost ground,” Vega said.
