(Mexico City).- President Andrés Manuel López Obrador warned last Tuesday that casinos should not open in Mexico, and new licenses won’t be granted.
"We are not giving permissions to open casinos. It started with (Vicente) Fox, precisely when Santiago Creel was Secretary of Government. We won’t", pointed López Obrador.
López Obrador pointed out that he will send to the Secretary of Government, Adán Augusto López Hernández, an informer, and said that if there is a new license, he will cancel it, because the instruction is not to issue any license.
"We are not going to grant licenses for casinos, as we are not granting new concessions for mining, as we are not permitting the exploitation of hydrocarbons, as we are not permitting the use of transgenic maize for human consumption", the agent pointed out.
In his early morning conference, in the National Palace, in the City of Mexico, the President expressed that he will in all ways review the theme of alleged extortions to casinos in Tamaulipas.
The laws in the urban estates regulate the use of land in the municipal and state aspects, but the licenses to operate casinos are exclusive to the federal government.
In 2020, the government secretary Olga Sánchez Cordero advised that the federal games and draws law established that the regulation, authorization, control and vigilance of the games is the faculty of the Segob. "This means that, it is only at the federal level that these authorizations can be granted and in this sense, as the lord president indicated, he does not have a single authorization to open a single casino", she expressed.
