The new city budget proposal recommends spending some of the new money on schools and economic development initiatives.

City Manager Ken Larking said this is a big deal. "I'm excited about the fact that we are going, as a community we have -- we are going to use this opportunity to help better the lives of the people who live in Danville," Larking said.

When it comes to the new revenue, it will be going to multiple places:

$2.8M will go toward economic development initiatives

$2.5 million to Danville Public Schools

$840,000 would go toward the police department headquarters

$800,000 for blight removal

$467,000 for gang prevention programming

And this $12.1M is just for the next fiscal year.

When the full resort opens in 2024, that number is projected to jump to over $39M in new revenue to the city.

Larking said it's all about building up the community. "I think with this opportunity, you know if we do it right, the people of Danville with reap great benefits," Larking explained. “From the economic opportunity that we're bringing to them, and the great quality of life, and the job opportunities.”

Larking said that their hope is to bring people out of poverty who are suffering in the Danville community. He added that the temporary opening for the casino, expected in July, could come even sooner. He said they're excited to start building that better life for the entire Danville community.
