(Macau).- Local gaming concessionaires are turning to private jet services in a bid to woo more overseas customers, operator of charter flights TAG Aviation Macau FBO said.
Since the SAR lifted Covid-related restrictions in January, the gaming operators have become more proactive in expanding their customer base, with some of them seeking air charter services to bring foreign guests to Macau, the general manager of the company, Rita Tam was quoted as saying by Chinese language newspaper Macau Daily.
Meanwhile, other gaming concessionaires have also actively been inquiring about the service, with details of their partnerships expected to be confirmed in April.
The number of guests served by the company in the first two months of 2023, edged closer to 2019 levels, Tam noted, adding that they are confident that te business jet market in Macau will recover to over 50 per cent of 2019 levels within the year.
In 2019, a total of 2,768 flights by business jet were handled at the Macau International Airport, an increase of 350 per cent compared to 781 recorded in 2007.
In January this year, the number of private jets from Southeast Asian countries to the SAR soared, with most of the guests visiting Macau for the purpose of travel and gaming.
Earlier this month, both Sands China and MGM China Holdings reportedly opened gaming zones exclusively dedicated to foreign players in their casinos – an initiative that can lead to a 5 percentage points in a tax levy under a new government policy aimed at attracting overseas punters post-Covid.
