(San Juan).- Hard Rock International has revealed plans to develop the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino San Juan, an $850 million integrated resort project that will mark the company’s first hotel, casino, and branded residences development in Puerto Rico, with construction set to begin in mid-2026 and opening targeted for 2029.

Hard Rock International Announces $850m Hotel & Casino Development in Puerto Rico

Hard Rock International confirmed it has partnered with Misla Hospitality, Stonecrest Investment Management, and The Interfin Companies to deliver the new-build project in Puerto Rico’s capital. Designed by Klai Juba Wald and CMA Architects, the resort will draw inspiration from the island’s cultural and musical heritage, incorporating works by local artists and celebrating San Juan’s historic rhythm and identity.

Governor of Puerto Rico, Jenniffer González-Colón, highlighted the project’s broader economic significance, stating: “The launch in San Juan of the first hotel, casino, and residential complex by the prestigious firm Hard Rock International, with construction set to begin mid-year, opens a world of possibilities for economic development. This significant $850 million investment, in addition to generating jobs and becoming another attraction for the island, helps continue positioning Puerto Rico as an ideal destination in the Caribbean — a destination for tourism, living, and global investment.”

Hospitality, Gaming, and Music Under One Roof

The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino San Juan will offer panoramic views of both San Juan Bay and the Atlantic Ocean and will include approximately 415 hotel rooms, 58 suites, and 186 Branded Residences. The property will also feature what Hard Rock describes as Puerto Rico’s first fully integrated casino, delivering a comprehensive travel and entertainment experience.

Music will play a central role in the resort’s concept, with dedicated event venues, a recording studio, and local memorabilia designed to amplify Puerto Rico’s vibrant music culture.

Music is at the heart of both Hard Rock and Puerto Rico, making this a perfect union,” said Jeff Hook, Chief Operating Officer at Hard Rock International. “San Juan is a natural extension of our portfolio, creating a seamless Hard Rock experience for guests traveling between our international properties. We're honored to create a destination that celebrates Puerto Rico's rich music and arts scene, and we look forward to welcoming visitors and locals alike to experience the island's dynamic cultural landscape.”

Tourism Growth and Community Impact

Beyond gaming and entertainment, the resort will feature a wide range of dining options, from casual poolside venues to upscale restaurants, along with multiple bars throughout the property. Additional amenities will include the Rock Spa®, a fitness center, three terrace-level pools, and dedicated spaces for younger guests, such as a kids’ club, arcade, and teen areas.

From a development perspective, Giorgio Borlenghi, Chairman of The Interfin Companies, emphasized the project’s long-term vision: “Working closely with trusted local partners, artists, and community leaders, we have approached this development with a strong focus on cultural preservation, environmental responsibility, and community engagement. Our intent is to deliver a world-class destination that reflects Puerto Rico's heritage while generating lasting economic and social value.”

The project is expected to generate more than 2,500 direct construction jobs and create approximately 1,250 permanent positions once operational. Hard Rock also reaffirmed its commitment to local partnerships and initiatives aimed at community empowerment and economic opportunity.

Willianette Robles Cancel, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, welcomed the announcement, noting: “We welcome Hard Rock International's first hotel project in Puerto Rico as a significant milestone for our tourism industry, strengthening our lodging portfolio through the addition of new hotel room inventory, supporting job creation, and enhancing the island's visitor experience.”

Jorge L. Pérez, President and CEO of Discover Puerto Rico, added: “This is an ambitious project that expands Puerto Rico's hotel capacity in one of the island's most iconic and attractive areas… and continues to position Puerto Rico as a globally competitive destination.”

Strategically located near Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport and adjacent to historic Old San Juan, the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino San Juan aims to become a new focal point for tourism, gaming, and entertainment in the Caribbean region.
