Hudson Yards casino plans promise open space, towers and school

(New York).- NY1 has exclusively obtained new renderings of a proposed casino development in Hudson Yards, showing a gleaming tower surrounded by a large park on the West Side. The development is one of about a dozen projects currently vying for three casino licenses offered in the downstate region. The license application process is being conducted by state gaming officials and is just getting into full swing.
The Hudson Yards project, called Wynn New York City, is a joint venture between Related Companies/Oxford Properties Group and Wynn Resorts. The proposal is slated to be built on a raised platform between West 30th and West 33rd streets and 11th and 12th avenues.
It is an undeveloped site Related Companies already has city approval to build office and residential towers on. The casino project would revise that plan dramatically.

Nonetheless, the developer is still promising community benefits similar to its original proposal, including a 5.6-acre park, a gaming resort and hotel, a residential building with affordable housing, office space and a school and day care center.
The competition, however, is stiff. Developers and casino companies have proposed projects in Times Square, near CitiField, at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, at the Bally's Links golf course in the Bronx and elsewhere.
Elected officials and community members have already expressed some opposition to the casino project on the West Side. It's unclear if the glitzy renderings will help persuade them otherwise.
