J Resort holds grand opening as rebranded Sands Regency hotel-casino

(Nevada).- Jacobs Entertainment holds a ribbon-cutting for the renovated J Resort hotel-casino in downtown Reno. The $300 million renovation is part of Jacob Entertainment’s efforts to revitalize downtown Reno’s west corridor as part of the Reno Neon Line District.
The J Resort held a grand opening and ribbon-cutting Friday as the downtown Reno hotel-casino completed major renovations.
The rebranded former Sands Regency hotel-casino has been undergoing a multi-year renovation after Jacobs Entertainment bought it in 2017.
The first phase of renovation included remodeling more than 500 hotel rooms and the casino floor.
The resort also added two new restaurants, J Paul’s Italian Steakhouse and Hanna’s Table, a three-meal restaurant with seasonal outdoor dining.
In 2019, CEO Jeff Jacobs told the Reno Gazette Journal that the Reno Neon Line District will bookend his development career. Jacobs has worked on projects such as the Nautica Entertainment Complex in Cleveland’s waterfront district.
The property also added several art pieces that will eventually include a 20-foot-tall sculpture by American artist Richard Erdman. Outside, work by digital artists from the United States, Europe and Asia will be featured on a 65-by-65-foot screen.
Other additions are the Afterglow Lounge, with live music, and events at the outdoor Glow Plaza festival grounds. The J Resort recently released its summer concert schedule, including George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic and the Reno Philharmonic.
