Multinational land-based gaming multinationals are opening their bets not only to profit from the online sector, but also to test the dynamics of the Brazilian market. They are already eyeing the possibility of opening casinos in paradise destinations and are looking to build their brands in the country.

Executives of these companies comment that Brazil followed a reverse process to the rest of the world: it legalised online gambling before organising the face-to-face gambling market under state rules.

In parallel to the authorisation of online gambling, the Parliament debated again the project to regulate ‘bicho gambling’ [parallel lottery], horse racing and casinos.

Caesars Palace already has a Loterj licence to operate in Rio, is currently building its headquarters in Americana, in the interior of São Paulo, and is hiring staff.

MGM Resorts has already invested R$54.25 million (US$10 million) in the project it will launch with Grupo Globo, BetMGM. In a post on LinkedIn, group CEO Bill Hornbuckle wrote that the company aims to bring the ‘authentic Las Vegas gambling experience to Brazil.’
