Macau hotel occupancy rate climbs further to 76.1% in February

(Macau).- Macau’s hotel occupancy rate reached 76.1% in February, representing a 27.5 percentage point increase over the same month last year and 2.1 percentage points higher than in January.
According to information from the Macau Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), 2-star and 3-star hotels enjoyed the biggest jumps, both enjoying occupancy rates north of 80%, an increase of 52.6 and 31 percentage points respectively year-on-year.
The reopening of Macau to the outside world since January 8 has led to a significant increase in arrivals, and the resumption of mainland tour groups to Macau in February has continued that trend. There were 17,000 arrivals as part of groups during the month.
The DSEC’s figures show the number of hotel guests in February was 883,000, up 78.5% year-on-year, of which 643,000 were from Mainland China, up by 62.2%, There were also 162,000 guests from Hong Kong and 11,000 guests from Taiwan, although the number of local guests fell by 34.3% to 45,000.
The average length of stay also decreased by 0.2 nights year-on-year to 1.6 nights.
By comparison, the hotel occupancy rate in February 2022 was just 48.7% with 493,000 guests throughout the month.
For the first two months of 2023 combined, the average occupancy rate of hotel establishments rose by 27.5 percentage points year-on-year to 73.6%, while the number of guests increased by 71.7% to 1.73 million. The average length of stay decreased by 0.2 nights to 1.7 nights.
