Macau Jan-Oct casino tax up over 11.8 pct on 2023 total

(Macau).- Financial authorities have reported as much as MOP73 billion (US$9.16 billion) in revenue from games of chance for the first ten months, with the latest figure up significantly from last year’s MOP51.55 billion.

According to the Financial Services Bureau, the October figure was up 11.86 per cent compared to a total of MOP65.26 billion for the whole of 2023.

The October figure lifted the current revenue to nearly MOP89 billion – up nearly 35 per cent from last year.

Total revenue, as of that month, was MOP89.4 billion, while expenditure overall hit MOP75.65 billion, resulting in a surplus of nearly MOP13.8 billion.

According to a revelation by the chief executive during a recent Legislative Assembly session, Macau’s fiscal reserves reached over MOP600 billion – alongside some MOP230 billion in foreign reserves.

Ho Iat Seng told lawmakers that the remaining two months could generate an average of MOP19 billion per month, with the full year to be bringing in around MOP228 billion in gross gaming revenue.
