(Macau).- The MGM Cotai Integrated Resort has been cordoned off on Sunday morning considering the pandemic-related risk after a casino table dealer working in the property tested positive for COVID-19, health authorities have announced.
Casino staff, hotel staff and hotel guests are isolated on site from October 30 to November 1, while no new hotel guests will be allowed.
All commercial activities within the integrated resort, including casino, hotel and restaurant operations, have been suspended, Health Bureau director Alvis Lo Iek Long said.
Also, all costumers who have been to the casino floor for more than 30 minutes between October 27 and 29 have seen their health code turn yellow and will need to carry out NAT on days 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7 before their code reverts to green should all their test results return negative.
The croupier is a 43-year old woman who tested positive on Sunday morning, after her nucleic acid tests returned negative on October 24 and 26.
Zhuhai authorities informed the SAR health authorities that the woman had been in contact with a COVID-19 case on October 25 at Shunda Express in Gongbei Port Underground Shopping Centre. She went to work at MGM Cotai on October 26, 27 and 28. Meanwhile, the women’s two 13-year-old sons have also tested positive for COVID-19. As both study at Macau Chamber of Commerce’s Ilha Verde Secondary School, all students, teachers, and school staff working there have seen their health code turn yellow and will need to conduct an NAT in the coming three days. This affects about 1,000 individuals. Classes at the Ilha Verde School are meanwhile suspended until November 5.
Health authorities are requiring all individuals to carry out on their own a daily rapid antigen test (RAT) today (Sunday), tomorrow (Monday) and Tuesday.
Everyone will need to upload the RAT result onto the Rapid Antigen Test Reporting Platform.
The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre added that those who don’t have RAT kits may collect the 5 kits today (Sunday) between 6pm and 9pm or tomorrow during office hours at the city’s health centres.
Also, starting from 6 pm today (Sunday), the validity of nucleic acid tests (NAT) for those crossing the borders into Zhuhai will be 24 hours.
Meanwhile, a number of events held by the Cultural Affairs Bureau have been cancelled, including the Lusofonia Festival, which was being held since Friday at the Taipa Houses Museum.
