(Bangkok).- A committee of representatives looking into the establishment of an entertainment complex that includes a casino is ready to submit the results of a study it conducted into the matter to the House speaker.
Pada Vorakanon, Palang Pracharath Party MP for Bangkok and spokeswoman of the special House committee, said the results were approved by the panel on Wednesday.
The committee is tasked with studying the possibility of establishing such a complex to generate state revenue from gambling, which is currently still illegal.
Before the results were approved, the committee conducted 24 meetings to examine and discuss the results, she said, adding the next step was to forward them to the House speaker by Wednesday.
The speaker will then consider putting the matter up for debate in the House of Representatives, she said.
She said a full report covering laws concerning tax collection, negative impact mitigation measures, ideal locations, possible investment formats and the possibility of incorporating gaming businesses in the complex will be submitted to the House speaker.
