(Terre Haute, ind).- Louisville-based Churchill Downs Inc. will cut the ribbon Wednesday on the final major piece of the $290 million Terre Haute Casino Resort. The 122-room luxury hotel will open its doors to the public, just over a month after the casino’s grand opening.
The 122-room luxury hotel will open its doors to the public, just over a month after the casino’s grand opening. Officials from Churchill Downs and the city of Terre Haute cut the ribbon on the casino on April 5, and company officials said the early numbers have been strong.
CEO Bill Carstanjen told investors in late April that he expected the hotel to give an even greater boost. “Since we will be a destination for people from Indianapolis, our 122-room hotel opening in mid-May should propel our performance even more,” Carstanjen said.
The hotel’s grand opening is scheduled for 4 p.m. with a ceremonial first check-in, followed by the opening of the Altitude Bar & Lounge on the venue’s 10th floor at 8 p.m. and a fireworks display to end the night.
Additionally, the resort will mark the opening of the Queen’s Beans Coffee Shop on Thursday, followed by the Hotel Lobby Bar opening Friday afternoon.
Overall, the Terre Haute Casino Resort features more than 1,000 slot machines, 50 electronic table games and 30 table games, as well as six live poker games. It will ultimately include six bars, five restaurants, and an event center.
