(Macau).- The Macau SAR is on track to end 2023 with a total of US$20.78 billion in gross gaming revenue, a 293 per cent jump from the previous year, but 43 power cent lower than in pre-pandemic times in 2019, analysts from Deutsche Bank estimate.
About US$15.1 billion of that total would be represented by mass market revenues, with only US$5.6 billion coming from the VIP side, the dispatch pointed out.
The SAR recorded gross gaming revenue of MOP$42.2 billion (US$5.3 billion) in 2022, down 51.4 per cent in 2021 and the lowest single-year total since 2004.
However, perspectives for the city’s gaming and tourism sectors have brightened since the removal of pandemic prevention and movement restrictions in the first months of this year.
Macau casinos raked in MOP12.74 billion (US$1.58 billion) in gross gaming revenue in March, according to fresh data released by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau.
In the first quarter of 2023, gaming revenue stood at MOP 34.6 billion, accounting for a 94 per cent year-on-year hike.
The GGR result for March was down 50.7 per cent relative to the GGR achieved in March of 2019.
According to the dispatch by Deutsche Bank Securities Inc.Gaming & Lodging Research Managing Director, Carlo Santarelli, Sands China was responsible for a quarter of all gaming revenues in the first quarter of the year.
The Las Vegas Sands affiliate was followed by Galaxy (19 per cent), MGM (16.3 per cent), Wynn Macau (14.2 per cent), Melco Resorts (13.1 per cent) and SJM (11.6 per cent).
