(Macau).- Average daily gaming revenue generated by the Macau SAR gaming sector recovered to MOP36 million (US$4.5 million) last week, channel checks carried out by brokerage Sanford C. Bernstein indicate.

Average daily gaming revenue recovers to some USD 4.5B

Overall, local casinos generated a total of MOP250 million between August 1 and 7, after July ended with record low results following the city’s worst outbreak since the start of the pandemic.

Local casinos raked in MOP398 million in gross gaming revenue in July, accounting for only five per cent of what was recorded in July 2021 and the worst monthly tally in about 30 years.

Between July 11 and July 22, gambling venues were closed, as the city endured a partial lockdown, and for the rest of the month, business was very low as a result of the overall pandemic-related measures and the cross-border restrictions.

Average daily travel in/out of Macau had recovered gradually to some 6,400last week, a 771 per cent jump when compared to 734 of the previous week.

As the worst community outbreak in the city was brought under control, daily visitation gradually approached some 20,000 since August 3.

However, this recovery could now be again hampered by new border policy changes imposed by Zhuhai authorities, which will only allow all Macau arrivals coming from the land port to enter and exit through the port once respectively per day starting from August 12.

Currently, people entering Zhuhai through the land port are required to present a negative COVID-19 nucleic acid test certificate conducted within the last 24 hours.
