Gaming in Spain 2025 Sets Stage for Smarter Regulation and Global iGaming Synergies

(Madrid, SoloAzar Exclusive).- Gaming in Europe was held last June 26 in Madrid, offering the latest novelties of the online gaming regulated market in Spain. Strategic Consultancy & -Events, Willem van Oort, commented the highlights of the event and its impact on the regulated gaming ecosystem in Europe.
Successful Gaming in Spain 2025
“I think we managed to put together another successful edition of our event. With both the Spanish and Brazilian regulator making an appearance, as well as a wide array of industry voices, most major stakeholders were present in Madrid. As always, the conference provided ample opportunity for domestic and international stakeholders to connect and exchange experiences,” van Oort said.
Gaming in Spain highlights
van Oort said that they were honored to have both Mikel Arana, Director General of the DGOJ, and Regis Dudena, Secretary of Prizes and Bets, at Brazil's Ministry of Finance, speak at the event. “It is always good to hear from the DGOJ, and with Brazil shaping up to become one of the world's hottest iGaming markets, we were very glad that we could offer the latest information to Spanish-licensed operators looking to make the jump across the Atlantic.”

Regulation and economic market viability
When asked about the main topics that dominated the discussion during the event, he said that, on top of opportunities in Latin American markets, a major topic of discussion was the growing regulatory burden in the regulated Spanish iGaming market – and in particular the unwelcome opportunities this offers to illegal operators.
“I think we all know that regulation is necessary – and perhaps even that less regulation is not always better. Still, there exists a real risk that overly burdensome rules will chase players away. And once they have moved to illegal alternatives, they will not easily come back. Of course, this is not a new discussion, but with an almost universal trend toward more restrictive regulatory approaches it is important to continue to have this discussion and to think about ways in which sensible regulation can be combined with economic market viability”.
Informative and relevant sessions
Regarding the feedback from attendees, he commented: “I think the consensus among both attendees and speakers is that we did two things particularly well. First, we offered highly informative and relevant sessions. Second, we managed to bring together people that mattered, which, of course, is great from a networking perspective. Most would agree that face-to-face interactions are still important. As I always say, some things are just better live.”
Gaming in Spain impact on the regulated ecosystem in Spain and Europe
“We offer a setting in which stakeholders with different perspectives and priorities can connect and exchange viewpoints, which is facilitated by the relevance and high quality of our presentations and panel discussions. There will not be consensus on everything, but we offer an environment in which opposing viewpoints can be heard. I think this has contributed to a sense that regulators and operators have at least one goal in common, namely, to create a regulated market that is sustainable both from an economic and player protection perspective,” he assured.
Gaming in Spain 2026
Van Oort commented that the organization is indeed working on the 2026 edition. “We already have some exciting ideas for next year, and I am looking forward to making them happen. Let's connect next year in Madrid!
