ICE Barcelona 2026: DGOJ presented its regulatory priorities for safe and transparent gambling

The DGOJ continued its participation in ICE Barcelona 2026, the largest international trade fair for the gaming industry, consolidating its role as an active regulator and sharing its vision on the future of online gambling in Spain.

DGOJ Regulatory Priorities for 2026

Mikel Arana, Director General of the DGOJ, spoke as a keynote speaker in the session "DGOJ Priorities – Coffee and Q&A session", where he detailed the strategic lines that will guide the regulation of gambling in Spain during 2026.

Arana highlighted two main axes:

Safe Play and Player Protection: The DGOJ will focus its efforts on risk prevention and reduction, implementing tools such as the Joint Deposit Limits System, a mechanism for detecting risk behaviors and objective alert messages.

Market integrity and the fight against illegal gambling: The regulator emphasized the importance of cooperating with law enforcement, strengthening international collaboration and ensuring that advertising and commercial strategies respect legality and consumer protection.

Regulatory convergence and technology

In the panel "Regulatory convergence: one market, one shared regulatory vision", Arana addressed the challenges of digital gambling advertising, especially on social networks, and the need to regulate its impact on young players. He also pointed out that artificial intelligence could become a key resource for the early detection of risks and fraud in the sector.

The presence of the DGOJ at ICE Barcelona 2026 allowed for the exchange of experiences with international regulators, strengthening global collaboration and clearly presenting the regulatory priorities that will mark gambling policy in Spain in 2026.
