Promoting Responsible Gaming in the Dominican Republic
⏱ 2 min read
(Santo Domingo, Exclusive SoloAzar) - During GAT Showcase Santo Domingo, the conference ‘Importance of the Implementation and Promotion of Responsible Gambling’ was held, where strategies that focus on education and awareness of players about the risks of excessive gambling were proposed.
During the GAT Showcase in Santo Domingo, the focus on responsible gambling was highlighted with the mention of resolution 136.2024, which regulates internet sales operations and establishes specific rules for responsible gambling, including player self-exclusion. Lawyer Yamile Gutiérrez applauded this advance by the regulator and emphasised the importance of implementing strategies to promote responsible gambling in the Dominican Republic.
Proposed strategies include education and awareness-raising of players about the risks associated with gambling, implementation of self-limitation tools on gambling platforms, collaboration between operators and regulators, and access to assistance for vulnerable players. A crucial aspect mentioned was the strict control of underage participation in gambling activities, a topic that resonated with the statements made by Dr. Pablo Ulloa during his lecture.

Yamile Gutierrez stressed that the importance of responsible gambling lies in protecting players from the risks of excessive gambling and preserving the integrity of the industry. This helps prevent addiction and ensures that gambling platforms operate in an ethical manner, promoting a safer and more sustainable environment for all. Responsible gambling was described as a social initiative involving governments, operators, vendors and, of course, the players themselves. The commitment of a company in the sports banking sector that has initiated congresses and talks on problem gambling through its foundation was highlighted.
In closing, the lawyer mentioned the benefits of responsible gambling, which include reducing the risk of addiction, protecting vulnerable players, improving the image and reputation of the gambling industry, and creating a safer and more sustainable environment. She stressed that the commitment to responsible gambling is a shared responsibility that must involve all players in the sector.
In a final reflection, it was stated that adopting responsible practices goes beyond simply complying with regulations; it is about acting ethically to ensure a safe and sustainable gaming environment, always prioritising the well-being of people. ‘Together we can build an industry where fun and responsibility go hand in hand,’ she concluded, thanking everyone for participating in this important discussion on responsible gambling in the gaming industry.
