Reusable Identity and Smoother Access: JUMIO’s Approach at Peru Gaming Show 2026
⏱ 3 min read
(Lima, SoloAzar Exclusive).- Peru Gaming Show (PGS) 2026 hosted the conference “Reusable Identity: Less Friction, More Play – How to Simplify Player Access,” led by Pilar Pereira, Director of Strategic Alliances at JUMIO. She explained how the evolution of digital identity is transforming user experiences on online betting platforms amid strong global growth in the sector.
Peru Gaming Show: The Industry’s Premier Meeting Point
With 23 years of history, the Peru Gaming Show has established itself as a key space for networking, innovation, and business development in the gaming industry. Each edition brings together operators, regulators, technology providers, and industry leaders in an environment of knowledge exchange and trend analysis.
Within this framework, JUMIO’s conference addressed one of the most critical issues for today’s industry: friction in onboarding and identity verification processes, especially during high-demand periods such as major international sporting events.
The Evolution of Digital Identity in Online Gaming
From Traditional Identity to Reusable Identity
During her presentation, Pilar Pereira explained that the concept of identity has radically changed in recent years.
“Today we talk about reusable identity. Recognition is no longer based solely on a government-issued document, but also on other indicators such as a mobile phone, email, or phone line,” she noted.
The executive emphasized that this shift aims to reduce friction in registration and improve user experience without neglecting regulatory compliance.
Friction, Abandonment, and Losses for Operators
One of the central points of the conference was the direct impact of slow verification processes on user conversion.
She warned that the industry faces a critical challenge:
“53% of users abandon a site if the process takes more than 3 seconds,” she stated.
Pilar Pereira also stressed that a poor experience can be decisive:
"More than 88% of users, if they have a bad experience, will not return to that platform.”
These figures show how speed and simplicity in onboarding have become decisive factors for the competitiveness of betting platforms.
Growth of Online Gaming and Regulatory Pressure
The Impact of the World Cup and Sector Expansion
Atassi also contextualized market growth driven by major sporting events.
According to her, the FIFA World Cup generates a significant increase in betting activity:
“More than $50 billion in sports bets are estimated, representing nearly 50% of the annual global total.”
She added that during these periods, users connect three to five times more than usual, intensifying pressure on platforms.
Regulatory Compliance and Rising Sanctions
The executive also warned about the increase in regulatory sanctions in the region:
“Sanctions in Latin America already exceed $160 million due to regulatory breaches,” she said.
In this context, companies must balance two key demands: user experience and compliance with rules such as Know Your Customer (KYC).
Fraud, Deepfakes, and New Digital Risks
Synthetic Identities and Impersonation
One of the most critical points raised was the rise of digital fraud, driven by technologies such as artificial intelligence.
Pilar explained:
“Today there are applications that can create fake faces, videos, or audio with the intent to defraud platforms.”
These techniques, known as deepfakes, represent a growing challenge for traditional verification systems.
Ongoing Risk Beyond Registration
The specialist emphasized that security should not be limited to the registration stage:
“It’s not enough to see a user only at onboarding; today we must analyze their entire behavior throughout the journey.”
This approach allows detection of abnormal patterns, multiple account abuse, or repeated fraud attempts.
Reusable Identity: Less Friction and More Trust
A New Model for the Industry
The central concept of the presentation was reusable identity, which allows users to reuse their verification across different platforms.
“Reusable identity means that the user can reuse their identity as long as they have given consent,” Pilar explained.
This model accelerates onboarding, reduces abandonment, and enhances trust in the digital ecosystem.
Technology, Compliance, and Growth
Finally, JUMIO’s representative emphasized that this approach not only improves user experience but also strengthens the industry:
“When there is trust, the ecosystem grows,” she concluded.
The proposal presented at Peru Gaming Show 2026 reinforces a clear trend in the online gaming industry: the need to combine security, technology, and simplicity to meet the demands of an increasingly digitalized and demanding market.
