(Lima, Exclusivo SoloAzar).- Georges Didier, Latin American Regional Director at Gaming Labs International (GLI) granted an interview to SoloAzar focused on the firm´s presence at the 20th edition of the Peru Gaming Show, held on June 14 and 15, in Lima city. Mr Didier highlighted the importance of the increase of companies with online gambling and sports betting propositions, and his positive view related to the modifications in the law on online gambling in Peru.
How did you see the event and what were the highlights of this 20th edition of PGS?
This edition of the PGS was a special edition, for two reasons. First, because it celebrated its 20th anniversary, and second, because of the moment in which Peru is going through in terms of the regulation of sports betting and remote games. The GLI team appreciated the significant support from the gaming industry at a local and international level with the participation of numerous suppliers and operating companies, both as exhibitors and visitors. Another important point that we were able to appreciate is the increase in representatives of companies related to online gaming and sports betting, which demonstrates the interest of this business vertical in operating and being aligned with its upcoming regulation.

Could you give a summary or analysis of GLI’s participation about the “Interinstitutional and interdisciplinary approach to the regulation of gambling and sports gambling”.
For GLI, participating in this type of event and promoting transcendental concepts and ideas about the gaming industry is of vital importance. The intention of the panel was to show how the synergy between different entities (both private and public) is important in the activity and how they should work together to fight against illegal gambling, fraud prevention, player protection, and operations, among other aspects. This concept must be promoted in all jurisdictions so that providers and operators work with a solid, strong, secure foundation and where the associated risks are controlled and mitigated.

With regard to the latest modifications to the Peruvian online gambling law, how do you think they will influence the sector locally and internationally?
The recent modifications are yet to be approved, and everything indicates that this will be the case in the short term. After this, the regulatory body will be able to publish the regulations with the respective technical requirements, and we hope that in the short term, we can have one more jurisdiction in the region which regulates sports betting and iGaming. At the conference, we heard about the regulatory entity, the commitment it has to the industry, and the fact that it seeks to work together so that Peru is again a regulatory model for other jurisdictions, as it was previously with the regulation of land-based games.
