HSBC Projects Macau September GGR Growth Despite Typhoon Risk

(Macau).- HSBC Global Research anticipates Macau’s September gaming revenue to grow up to 12% year-on-year, despite potential disruptions from Super Typhoon Ragasa, projecting MOP 18.65–19.3 billion in GGR and reaffirming “buy” ratings on MGM China and Galaxy Entertainment.

HSBC Global Research forecasts Macau’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) for September to rise by up to 12% year-on-year, reaching MOP 18.65 billion to 19.3 billion (HK$18.76 billion–HK$19.19 billion). This projection assumes an average daily GGR of MOP 580 million to 650 million for the remainder of the month, despite potential disruptions from Super Typhoon Ragasa, which could force temporary casino closures.

According to HSBC’s research note, Macau’s GGR for the first 21 days of September stood at MOP 13.45 billion, with an average daily run rate of MOP 640 million — a 10% decline from August but consistent with seasonal trends.

HSBC reaffirmed its “buy” ratings on MGM China (2282) and Galaxy Entertainment (0027), maintaining target prices of HK$18.8 and HK$45.5, respectively, citing strong fundamentals and continued recovery momentum in the gaming sector.
