Las Vegas Gaming Revenue Falls in Early 2026, but Market Indicators Suggest Recovery Ahead

(Las Vegas).- The gaming industry in Las Vegas began 2026 with a weaker-than-expected performance, as casino revenues on the Strip declined year over year in January. Despite the slowdown in gaming activity, several indicators — including stronger hotel demand and rising convention attendance — suggest that the market could regain momentum in the coming months.

Las Vegas Gaming Revenue Falls in Early 2026, but Market Indicators Suggest Recovery Ahead

According to recent figures, gaming revenue on the Las Vegas Strip dropped 11% compared with the same period in 2025, reflecting a challenging start to the year for operators. However, analysts point out that underlying trends in certain gaming segments, along with improving tourism metrics, indicate a more balanced outlook for the months ahead.

Baccarat Weakness Impacts Overall Casino Revenue

The decline in gaming revenue was largely driven by weaker baccarat results, a high-stakes table game that typically has a strong influence on overall casino performance. January figures showed a 6.55% decrease in total gaming win on the Strip, with baccarat experiencing lower wagering volumes and softer outcomes than expected.

Despite this setback, other segments of the casino floor delivered more stable results. Slot machines recorded a 3% year-over-year increase in revenue, continuing to demonstrate their resilience as a core driver of casino income.

When excluding baccarat’s underperformance, the broader gaming picture appears more positive. Total casino win would have posted approximately 4% growth compared with the previous year. Additionally, the slot handle increased 7%, while table game drop rose 9%, signaling healthy levels of player activity across several categories.

These figures have led industry observers to adopt a cautiously optimistic view of the market, anticipating that baccarat volumes and high-roller play could recover later in the year.

Tourism and Convention Activity Support Market Outlook

Beyond the gaming floor, Las Vegas’ hospitality sector is showing encouraging signs. Hotel performance improved in January, with revenue per available room (RevPAR) increasing 4.5% — the first rise in eight months. Average daily room rates also climbed 7%, suggesting sustained demand for accommodations despite the gaming slowdown.

February data reinforced this positive trend. RevPAR surged 23% while average room rates rose an additional 8%, and hotel occupancy grew by roughly 13%. These metrics highlight a strengthening tourism environment that could eventually translate into increased gaming spending.

Convention activity is also contributing to the recovery narrative. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reported a 7% increase in convention attendance in January, underscoring the city’s continued relevance as a global hub for trade shows and industry events. Although overall visitor numbers declined slightly by 2.2%, the growth in business travel provides an important source of demand for casinos and integrated resorts.

Industry Eyes Stronger Performance in Q2

Looking ahead, operators and analysts are increasingly focused on the second quarter of 2026 as a potential turning point. If the current trends in hotel bookings, convention traffic, and tourism demand continue, gaming revenues could rebound as visitor spending strengthens.

Major integrated resorts such as The Venetian, Bellagio, and Caesars Palace are expected to benefit from higher occupancy levels driven by large-scale events and international conferences. Industry gatherings and entertainment events scheduled throughout the year are likely to reinforce Las Vegas’ position as one of the world’s leading gaming and hospitality destinations.

While the first quarter may remain challenging for casino revenue growth, the broader economic indicators surrounding tourism and business travel suggest that Las Vegas’ gaming sector could regain momentum as 2026 progresses.
