(Norfolk).- Architects on Monday presented revamped plans for a Norfolk casino near Harbor Park, designed to be built in a single construction phase. The latest design includes a scaled-back 200-room hotel.
New renderings presented to Norfolk city leaders Monday show what the Pamunkey Indian Tribe's Casino in Norfolk could look like. The 90,000 square-foot, $500 million resort and casino would be built right next to Harbor Park, the home of the Norfolk Tides.
The most recent plans for HeadWaters Resort and Casino, presented to the Norfolk Architectural Review Board, include a casino, an at-least 935-space parking garage and a five-story, 200-room hotel tower on the 6.5-acre site. Other features presented include an outdoor pool and bar, a food hall with four or five restaurants, a sports bar, a steakhouse, a fitness center and a spa, among others.
The presentation, by Daron Andrus with the HKS architectural firm, comes after months of silence on the casino front. “We’ve had a good working relationship with them for three or four years now," Norfolk Tides General Manager Joe Gregory said about the casino.
Three operational casinos thrive
Virginia’s three operational casinos have done well to generate revenue since their respective Norfolk is only about a 30-minute drive from the North Carolina border, and its casino could attract North Carolina residents when it opens.
