(Macau).- Macau’s COVID-19 recovery is in full swing with the SAR welcoming more than 150,000 visitor arrivals between Friday and Sunday, including 55,845 on Saturday 14 January – the highest daily tally in over a year.

Macau daily visitor arrivals move above 50,000 as hopes rise for strong Chinese New Year

The total number of arrivals during the three days from 13 to 15 January was 153,079, with 46,742 arrivals on Friday climbing to 55,845 on Saturday then 50,492 on Sunday, according to figure from the Public Security Police Force.

The increase bodes well for the upcoming Chinese New Year holiday, with the weekend’s figures alone having comfortably exceeded the combined 113,699 visitors who arrived in Macau during the entire seven-day Golden week period last year.

It also makes comments by MGTO deputy director Cheng Wai Tong – who on Thursday predicted daily visitation during CNY would reach between 40,000 and 50,000 – appear extremely conservative.

The 153,079 arrivals between Friday and Saturday included 72,672 via the Border Gate, 29,256 via the Hengqin Port, 10,726 via Taipa Ferry Terminal and 18,083 via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge.
