January GGR has been negatively impacted by tightened border restrictions due to a recent COVID-19 outbreak in neighboring Zhuhai. The recent cataclysmic events in the VIP industry have also affected GGR.

The amount is down 74.6% on January 2019 (MOP$24.94 billion), and down 71.3% on January 2020 (MOP$22.13 billion), which was largely unaffected by the global pandemic, which first impacted Macau GGR in the last few days of January 2020.

Macau last month reported GGR of MOP$86.86 billion (US$10.82 billion) in 2021, representing a 43.7% improvement on 2020 but down 70.3% compared with 2019.
