Macau GGR hits new post-pandemic high of us$ 2.6 B in October

(Macau).- Macau’s gaming operators generated gross gaming revenues of MOP$20.8 billion (US$2.60 billion) in October, a new post-pandemic high thanks to a record-breaking National Day Golden Week holiday at the start of the month.

According to information from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), the October GGR result represented a 6.6% increase over the same month last year and was 20% higher than the MOP$17.3 billion (US$2.16 billion) generated in September. It was also 3% higher than the previous post-pandemic high of MOP$20.2 billion (US$2.52 billion) in May.

For the first 10 months of 2024 combined, GGR reached MOP$190.1 billion (US$23.7 billion), up 28.1% over the same period in 2023.

The impressive monthly tally comes after Macau welcomed 993,117 visitors during Golden Week, an increase of 1.9% over 2019 numbers. Hotel occupancy during Golden Week, which ran from 1 to 7 October, averaged 94.5% with peak occupancy of 98.5% on the 3 and 4 October.

Analysts had also pointed to sustained strength in the market in the week following the holiday period, with many having raised their revenue forecasts.
