(Macau).- All the six gaming operators will support the government in organising the Light up Macao 2022 this year, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes has said.

Macau: Government partners with gaming sector to light up city

At a press conference held this afternoon, the official said that the month-long event would cost about MOP17.4 million to take place, a budget down 8.4 per cent compared to last year’s.

The annual event designed to attract tourists will brighten up the city between 3 December this year and 1 January next year.

Installments embellished with glowing lights, interactive games, projection mapping shows and performances will be scattered across the city, or 28 spots in particular, during the period.

The city’s six gaming companies will also give the façades of their resorts a makeover to show support for the campaign as partners.

Fernandes said that crews from Macau, the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, Portugal and Shanghai would stage a performance each in the meantime.

The event is part of a line-up of campaigns to woo tourists from across the border as the government is striving to prop up the city’s tourism-dependent economy.
