(Macau).- Macau’s gross gaming revenue experienced a dip in February compared to the previous month in spite of a Golden Week that filled the city with tourists, standing at nearly MOP18.5 billion (US$2.3 billion).

According to the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, the figure is up 79 per cent on 2023, and suggests a 73 percent recovery compared to 2019.

However, January saw some MOP19.34 billion, thanks to a surging mass-market momentum.

The February result, however, may disappoint some as it has fallen short of rosy estimates made by some industry professionals and stakeholders.

Sands China’s Wilfred Wong told media earlier this month that Macau had the potential to generate up to MOP20 billion.

Brokerage JP Morgan, meanwhile, believed that it would at least make some MOP19 billion this month.

With the first two months of the year taken into consideration, Macau has so far raked in MOP37.8 billion.
