(Macau).- Macau has welcomed a new post-COVID single day visitor arrival record during the current Chinese New Year (CNY) Golden Week holiday period, with 219,092 arrivals recorded on Friday – beating the 217,451 who arrived on the third day of CNY in 2024.

Macau sets a new record for post-COVID daily visitors with 219,092 arrivals

The new record contributed to the total 821,016 arrivals during the first five days of the eight-day Golden Week holiday, which runs from 28 January to 4 February. There were also 218,367 arrivals on Saturday, although total arrivals during the first five days remain 8.6% below the same period last year due to a slow start to the week.

Macau saw 78,968 arrivals last Tuesday 28 January, rising to 131,856 on Wednesday 29 January and 172,733 on Thursday 30 January before topping the 200,000 mark on Friday and Saturday.

Visitation from mainland China during those five days is down 11.3% year-on-year at 606,231 while arrivals from Hong Kong are 4.4% lower at 158,191.

The Chinese New Year Golden Week holiday is one of the most important long holidays in China, and a time when Macau’s visitor arrivals traditionally increase significantly. Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, stated in an interview before this year’s holiday that the overall visitor arrivals during the holiday were expected to reach a daily average of 185,000, with hotel occupancy reaching about 90%.
