(Macau).- The number of visitor arrivals coming into Macau topped 150,000 for the second consecutive day on Sunday in an encouraging start to Golden Week festivities.
According to information from the Public Security Police Force, there were 150,039 arrivals on Sunday, only slightly fewer than the 158,726 people who arrived on Saturday. Combined with the 88,089 arrivals on Friday, the total number of visitor arrivals for the first three days of the Golden Week holiday is 396,854. The daily average of 132,284 is 429% than the same period last year.
Of Sunday’s 150,039 visitor arrivals, 110,705 were from mainland China – up 393% year-on-year – while arrivals from Hong Kong grew by 1,568% to 30,687. This means the proportion of mainland arrivals on Sunday was considerably higher than on the first two days of Golden Week.
The strong visitor numbers follow Macau’s Gaming Inspection Bureau (DICJ) publishing its monthly GGR results on Sunday, which showed September gaming revenues declining month-on-month. However analysts estimate October will see the highest revenue results of the year on the back of the Golden Week holiday period.
