(Macau).- Macau’s Public Security Police Force has released preliminary visitor statistics showing that as of midday on Sunday 10 November, the number of visitors to the city had surpassed 30 million for the year – already exceeding the FY23 total of 28.3 million.
The average daily inbound visitor count stands at approximately 95,000, representing a 27% increase compared to the same period last year. Visitor numbers have returned to about 87% of the levels seen before the pandemic in 2019.
According to the data, mainland visitors make up the majority of the 30 million inbound travelers, accounting for about 70% of the total, with a year-on-year increase of 33%. Visitors from Hong Kong account for 21%, with a year-on-year increase of 0.5%, while travelers from Taiwan and other regions represent 2% and 7%, respectively, with year-on-year increases of 73% and 83%.
By entry point, the Border Gate accounts for 39% of total inbound visitors; the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge 25%; the Hengqin Port 12%; and the airport 9%.
As per previous data released by the Statistics and Census Service data, the total number of inbound visitors in the first three quarters of 2024 was 25,920,914, marking a 30.1% year-on-year increase. Notably, 12 February, the third day of the Lunar New Year, has recorded the highest single-day inbound visitor count for the year, reaching 217,000.
With an increase in activities planned for the fourth quarter, authorities expect visitor numbers to gradually rise. The Director of the MGTO previously stated that the upcoming Macau Grand Prix is expected to attract a large number of visitors, with hotel occupancy rates potentially reaching above 90%.
