(Annapolis).- Maryland’s regulated casino sector reported strong performance in April 2026, with the state’s six licensed gaming properties generating a combined US$172.2 million in revenue from slot machines and table games. The monthly total represented the highest single-month result recorded during the first 10 months of Fiscal Year 2026, reinforcing the continued importance of land-based gaming to the state’s public funding structure.
Maryland Casino Market Posts Year-on-Year Growth
According to figures released by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency, statewide casino revenue increased by 5.9% compared to April 2025, representing an annual gain of approximately US$9.5 million.
Gaming contributions directed to the state reached US$72.5 million during the month, reflecting a 2.7% year-on-year increase. More than US$52.2 million of that amount was allocated to Maryland’s Education Trust Fund, which supports public education programs statewide.
The April performance arrives amid broader economic pressures across the United States, yet Maryland’s casino industry continued to demonstrate resilient consumer demand and stable visitation levels.
MGM National Harbor Remains Market Leader
Property Generates Nearly US$74 Million in April
MGM National Harbor once again led Maryland’s casino market, reporting US$73.9 million in gaming revenue for April 2026. The result marked a 7.8% increase compared to the same month last year.
Located near the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, the property continues to attract significant traffic from across the region, maintaining its position as the dominant gaming venue in the state.
Meanwhile, Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland posted the second-highest revenue total with US$63.3 million, up 7.4% year-over-year.
The remaining Maryland casinos delivered mixed monthly results:
- Horseshoe Casino Baltimore recorded a 3.0% decline
- Hollywood Casino Perryville posted a 4.7% decrease
- Ocean Downs Casino reported revenue growth
- Rocky Gap Casino Resort also registered gains during the month
Fiscal Year Revenue Still Slightly Behind 2025 Levels
State Contributions Reach US$688 Million
Despite April’s strong results, cumulative casino revenue for the first 10 months of Fiscal Year 2026 totaled approximately US$1.6 billion, representing a slight 1.4% decline compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year.
State contributions from gaming operations reached US$688 million, down 1.1% year-over-year.
Maryland’s casino tax structure continues to channel gaming proceeds into several strategic sectors, including:
- The Education Trust Fund
- Local communities hosting casino properties
- Maryland’s horse racing industry
- Small, minority-owned, and women-owned businesses
Land-Based Gaming Continues Supporting State Economy
The latest figures underline the ongoing economic role played by Maryland’s commercial casino sector, which employs thousands of workers and attracts regional tourism throughout the Mid-Atlantic market.
Regulators noted that monthly revenue disclosures remain part of the state’s transparency strategy for the regulated gaming industry. Industry stakeholders continue to view casino gaming as a critical source of public funding and economic activity, particularly for education and community development initiatives across Maryland.
