(Macau).- The Secretary for Security said the new gaming law is not likely to have an impact on the SAR’s security, but assured that authorities are prepared to face any risks that may arise in the future, public service broadcaster TDM reported.
Wong Sio Chak, who was speaking on the sidelines of an event welcoming the Year of the Tiger, renewed his pledge to present amendment proposals to the SAR’s national security legislation later this year, pointing out that this initiative is a priority for his office.
Mr Wong also spoke of the new gaming bill which has been approved at first-reading by the Legislative Assembly, stressing that amendments to the law were inevitable.
Despite admitting that the gaming industry may be impacted by the new law, Wong Sio Chak believes it will not pose major risks to the SAR’s security.
“We think that the change now implemented will have no impact on the security of the society. But as I said before, there are always risks. However, the law enforcement authorities have been stepping up law enforcement with regards to the gaming industry and have already developed an enforcement model that is effective and credible. That way we are able to deal with different types of security risks,” Mr Wong said as quotes by TDM.
