(Macau).- Revenue from VIP baccarat amounted to some MOP8.56 billion (US$1.06 billion) in the first quarter of 2023, which accounts for about one fourth (24.7 per cent) of the city’s total revenue of MOP34.6 billion (US$4.28 billion) for the first three months of the year, as indicated by figures from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ).

VIP baccarat accounts for 25 pct of Q1 gaming revenue

In pre-pandemic 2019, VIP baccarat revenue reached MOP135 billion (US$17.7 billion), which represented 46 per cent of the full-year gross gaming revenue earned by local casinos. At the peak of the city’s junket/VIP sector in 2013, full-year VIP baccarat revenue hit MOP238 billion (US$17.7 billion), accounting for two thirds (66 per cent) of that year’s record-breaking tally.

Also according to DICJ, mass-market baccarat in Macau generated approximately MOP20.51 billion (US$2.54 billion), accounting for 59.2 per cent of the total gross gaming revenue (GGR) earned by all casinos during that period. Overall gaming revenue in the first quarter totalled MOP34.6 billion, indicating a 94 per cent year-on-year increase. The tally represents 26.2 per cent of the MOP130 billion (US$16 billion) target set by the government for this year.
