(Brasilia) - Deputy Reginaldo Lopes has introduced a project to ban gambling advertising throughout the country.
The rapporteur of one of the tax reform regulation proposals in the Chamber of Deputies, Reginaldo Lopes (PT-MG), has presented a project to ban all gambling house advertising in Brazil.
If passed, Lopes' proposal would prevent so-called “bookmakers” from sponsoring, for example, football clubs. Currently, bookmakers are printed on the jerseys of at least 15 teams in the Brasileirao A Series.
The deputy's bill was presented on Tuesday (10/9). According to the text, the ban applies to all media, including sports posters and uniforms, as well as television, radio, newspapers and the internet.
The reason for the deputy's concern was a recent study by the Locomotiva Institute, which noted that the number of gamblers in Brazil has reached 52 million in five years, and that 45% suffer economic losses.
