Brazil: Impacts of online gambling will be debated today by the CCT

In the request, the senator cites an ordinance published in July by the Ministry of Finance with the criteria for each online game to be subject to certification (Ordinance No. 1,207 of 2024). The ordinance is part of the regulation of Law 14.790 of 2023, which provides for the lottery modality of fixed-odds betting, sanctioned in December 2023.

"It is crucial that the Senate exercise its supervisory role to ensure that these activities are conducted transparently, responsibly and within the established legal parameters," says the senator in the request, in which she specifically mentions Fortune Tiger, popularly known as the "tiger game", and points out the need to prevent access by minors.

Invited to the hearing were the presidents of the One Internet Group (OIG), Fernando Oliveira Lima, and the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL), Plínio Augusto Lemos Jorge, as well as representatives from the ministries of Science, Technology and Innovation, Finance and Justice and Public Security.

The event will be interactive: citizens can send questions and comments via the Senate Ombudsman's Office (0800 061 2211) or via the e-Citizenship Portal, which can be read and answered by the senators and debaters live. 

The Senate offers a declaration of participation, which can be used as a complementary activity hour in a university course, for example. The e-Citizenship Portal also receives citizens' opinions on the bills currently before the Senate, as well as suggestions for new laws.
