(Sao Paulo).- Brazil has decided to direct online betting sites, but at the same time to encourage the opening of physical game rooms. After the federal government enacts the Provisional Measure that will regulate Online sports betting, the gaming industry scenario in Brazil begins to generate new perspectives for all its players.
There are not a few official sectors that are beginning to see this measure as a first step towards a possible general liberalization of gambling in the country, which would also include bingo halls and casinos.
Political interests. This intention would have been formulated even by the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, in closed-door meetings with members of the Government and parliamentarians.
"Pacheco said that he really wants to see the government's ability to work on these sports betting to rethink the issue of casinos," said a source in the economic area of Congress, who spoke on condition of anonymity. This source, who participated in a conversation on the subject with the senator, said that Pacheco treats the matter with "the caution that the subject requires", but that he considers that the regulation of sports betting is a test.
In other words, one of the most responsible for moving forward in Parliament the regulation of online betting houses now encourages the opening of classic Bingo and Casino halls.
The regulation of Online betting is a measure that has the support of all sectors of the federal government, with the preponderance of the Ministry of Finance, due to its collection nature. Other portfolios, such as Tourism, have also expressed their support.
Two Ministries in favor of the measure
The initiative to promote casinos and bingos in Brazil already has the support of two Portfolios of the Government of Luiz Ignacio Lula Da Silva. Celso Sabino, Minister of Tourism, explicitly showed his support and, from the portfolio led by Fernando Haddad, they would have already given the go-ahead to regulate the issue of casinos in case the measure advances.
In February 2022, while still a legislator for his party, Sabino voted in favor when the bill reached the House.
Currently, the matter is paralyzed in the Senate and has yet to be defined by a rapporteur in the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ).
The Ministry of Economy was the most involved in the regulatory process for online sports betting.
