(Chile).- Finally, next week, the Chamber of Representatives will vote a bill to ban advertising of online betting platforms and sport clubs, assured UDI representative Marco Antonio Sulantay, author of the legal initiative.
The president of the entity, who promised to take the issue to debate, after the author of the initiative, the deputy for the Coquimbo Region, Marco Antonio Sulantay, showed his concern for the replacement that the motion evidenced in the table. “It was in force for five weeks. It had to be voted but it was withdrawn. The President explained to me that it was due to a change in priorities, but that it will be put to vote in the following session," said the congressman.
Sulantay added that it is positive that these types of situations are clarified. “It is not good that these things happen, especially if we know that the companies that manage these platforms are deploying a very strong lobby to influence the fate of this initiative,” he said.
The parliamentarian also said that the time factor is also important in this context, since “the activity carried out by these platforms is illegal in Chile. Here, the game is prohibited, except in exceptional cases indicated by law. However, these companies have signed million-dollar contracts, becoming sponsors of practically all Chilean soccer,” Sulantay stressed.
In its core, the project prohibits any commercial relationship between an online betting platform with sports organizations, especially clubs. The initiative establishes fines for those who do not comply, ranging from 500 to 2,000 UTM, in addition to the loss of legal personality if necessary.
The signed contracts that are in force must cease at the end of twelve months from the promulgation of the Law.
