Commission sends to the House of Representatives a project that seeks to regulate betting platforms

Unanimously, the House Finance Committee sent to the floor the bill that regularly targets online betting platforms

The initiative aims to establish a competitive market, make transparent the origins and destination of the resources obtained by the industry; and grants greater powers to the Superintendency of Casinos and Games to supervise this activity.

The Undersecretary of the Treasury, Heidi Berner, defended the articles associated with taxation and confirmed that the initiative will be maintained with great urgency, since the platforms are illegal, do not pay taxes, do not guarantee rights to consumers and do not comply with the Law Data Protection.

This initiative had broad support in the commission. The independent deputy, Carlos Bianchi, appreciated that the project contemplates a mandatory contribution of 1% of gross income to actions that promote responsible gambling. Meanwhile, the Republican legislator, Agustín Romero, highlighted the fiscal contribution of the initiative, which, according to the financial report, would reach 84 billion pesos per year.

The consulting lawyer for the main online betting houses in the country, Carlos Baeza, criticized the approval of the tax burden that the industry will have, which reaches 38%, one of the highest in the world

The parliamentarians highlighted that 2% of the gross income from this business will be allocated to the National Sports Institute, to be distributed to federations, and the Olympic and Paralympic committees of Chile.
